A $1.575 million grant from the McGowan Government will fast track major refurbishments at St Bart’s head office and housing facility in East Perth.
Located on Lime Street, the St Bart’s property has provided much needed transitional housing, community housing, aged care and support services to people experiencing or at-risk of homelessness and the elderly since its opening in August 2012.
Planned refurbishments incorporate a Psychologically Informed Environment design that aims to enhance wellbeing outcomes for St Bart’s consumers and staff and foster a sense of community amongst residents, staff and visitors through the creation of new shared social and work spaces and engagement areas that encourage communication, accessibility, collaboration and visibility. Existing floorplans will be reconfigured to also create new spaces that enable external agencies to run onsite clinics to support improved consumer outcomes.
St Bart’s Chief Executive Officer Samantha Drury welcomed Minister for Housing, Lands, Homelessness and Local Government Hon. John Carey MLA to the Lime Street property on Friday 7 January for a tour and to see where refurbishments would be made.
“We were delighted to host Minister Carey today and we thank him and the McGowan Government for their ongoing support of St Bart’s,” Ms Drury said.
“Our planned refurbishments will strengthen our ability to deliver Trauma Informed Care and Recovery services and will assist with enhancing psychological and emotional wellbeing outcomes for our consumers and staff.
“Of equal importance, the refurbishment works will not interrupt our normal residential or service provision at our Lime Street property.”
Minister Carey said: “St Bart’s has been providing critical accommodation and support services from their facility on Lime Street for many years, and this improved design will ensure we can enhance the service delivery.”
Refurbishment works are due to be completed by mid-2022.
