Homelessness Week 2022’s theme highlighted the intrinsic link between ‘Housing, Health and Homelessness’, and we enjoyed honouring the week with a number of events, media opportunities and activities.
The wild weather in Perth was no match for our determination to go through with our Homelessness Week BBQ for our service consumers and residents. Our amazing volunteer Jan braved the elements to cook up 100+ patties, while some of the St Bart’s Executive team had a chat with consumers as they filled their plates with delicious burgers and salads.
Opting to bring the event indoors, we opened up Cafe Lime where the heating kept everyone nice and warm.
As part of our health focus throughout the week, we added delicious yoghurts, bowls of fresh fruit and juice to our usual Café Lime breakfast offering for our consumers to enjoy. Thanks to our generous Patron, Graham Edwards AM, for kindly donating these healthy breakfast extras!
We also had the team from On My Feet pay a visit to the café to share information about a new walking group they have started that residents and service consumers are encouraged to join. The one hour/once a week walking group takes in the sights of East Perth before concluding at a local café for a cuppa and a chat.
To mark Homelessness Week 2022, Business News used their regular ‘Hearts and Minds’ feature piece to shine a light on homelessness in WA and what NFPs working in the space see as the most pressing issues facing the sector and those in need of housing assistance. In the article, our CEO Samantha Drury shares her thoughts, which you can read here.
