It’s been nine years since Peter first joined us at our Community Recovery Village in Middle Swan, and it was a bittersweet moment when we said farewell to him recently as he moved on from our services and into his own home.
With an interest in all things aviation, Peter’s passion and enthusiasm has been a great source of enjoyment and a basis for connection with both staff and fellow residents over the years. He has regaled us all with stories of his time spent in the cockpit on a commercial airline, and even spent time with staff at the viewing deck at the airport, explaining the intricacies and workings of aeroplanes and how he worked around them when he was younger.
Spending many evenings drawing detailed planes that he would sometimes donate to staff to display in the offices, Peter’s own unit featured proud displays of model aeroplanes, each with its own unique story, which Peter would share with an enthusiasm and smile that would like up the room.
It has been an absolute pleasure watching, supporting and assisting Peter throughout his recovery, and we can’t wait to see what this next chapter holds for him as he gains more independence living in his own unit in the community.
